Reducing Storm Water Pollution At Home

As a resident, there are several ways you can contribute to improving the water quality of Creek County's creeks and streams.

  • Maintain vehicles to prevent fluid leaks. Place oil drip pans under vehicles if they have leaks that are constant so that the oil or transmission fluid does not seep into the ground or leak into the stormwater system.
  • Use a mulching mower or rake grass & leaves instead of blowing them into the street to block storm drains that could cause flooding issues.
  • Grass blown into the streets then flowing into the storm drains will cause issues with stormwater quality down the road as it flows into the creeks and rivers.
  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides properly. Read labels to determine how much to use and when to apply.
  • Collect litter, trash, old oil, animal droppings and anything possibly toxic, around your house or work so that it doesn't pollute the stormwater system when it rains and flows into the to the creeks and rivers.
  • If you see a blocked drain or notice illegal dumping call 918-216-4371 or 918-224-0278.  If within a local city or town, please call their City/Town Hall to let them know of the issue asap.
